Aloe Vera - Aloe barbadensis

Aloe barbadensis

Description:

Belonging to the Liliaceae family, aloe vera is a plant with a short trunk of 30 to 50 cm which comes from Africa. This succulent plant develops smooth, fleshy leaves with a pale yellow spine at the tip. Several years of growth are needed before a floral spike of around 1 cm appears in its centre.

Traditions:

Already highly prized by Cleopatra as a beauty product, this plant has endured over the centuries thanks to the healing and beautifying qualities of the gel derived from its leaves. In the 12th century, it was much appreciated by the Salerne school, one of the oldest medical schools in Europe.

Properties:

We use the adhesive juices extracted from the leaves. Very rich in nutritive substances, aloe vera boosts the natural defences and hydrates the skin. It maintains the skin’s balance and encourages its regeneration.
