Chestnut tree - Castanea sativa

Castanea sativa

Description:

The chestnut is a majestic tree of the Fagaceae family. Its leaves are pointed with large saw-toothed edges. It produces burs covered in spikes each containing 1 to 3 nuts with a leathery skin, the chestnuts. Originating from Asia Minor, they are found in large quantities in Corsica, Provence and the Cevennes.

Traditions:

Chestnuts can be eaten roasted or boiled. For centuries they were used in baking bread. The chestnut’s leaves are traditionally used in decoctions against sore throats.

Properties:

Chestnut extracts are nourishing and stimulating due to their rich carbohydrate content. They help to maintain the skin’s barrier function and help to regulate the desquamation process.
