Description:

Coming from Asia Minor and belonging to the Conifer family, the cypress is a tree that is widespread mainly throughout the southern Mediterranean. Its leaves are persistent. The entire tree exudes a strong odour of turpentine.

Traditions:

A symbol of eternal life, it is often planted in cemeteries. Hippocrates mentioned it for the treatment of intestinal disorders and in Greece, sufferers from chest maladies were sent to breathe the emanations from cypress woods.

Properties:

Cypress essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the branches and leaves contains alpha-pinene. It has a powerful odour of resin and a sweet flavour. It strengthens the blood vessels and improves the cutaneous microcirculation. The essential oil also possesses antiseptic and regenerative properties.
