Oats - Avena sativa

Avena sativa

The oat is an annual plant belonging to the Poaceae family. It is recognisable by its tall height and pendulous flowers arranged in loose spikes. Its seeds are grouped in light clusters.

Oats were traditionally used for making charms to achieve material prosperity. Since mediaeval times, oats have been used for their medicinal properties in the form of poultices. They are widely cultivated today for animal feed.

Oat flour is obtained by grinding the seeds. Very rich in starch, it is applied to the skin as a softener. Oat milk is also used since it nourishes and hydrates dry and aggressed skins.
