Grapefruit tree - Citrus paradisi or grandis

Citrus paradisi or grandis

A fruit tree measuring 7 m in height, grapefruit belongs to the Rutaceae family. Its fruit attains the size of a melon, with a smooth skin, and a yellowish-green colour, on maturity. Its peel or zest is very thick (2 cm or more), with a spongy, cottony consistency.

In the 17th century it was a valuable resource for long sea voyages, quenching thirst and satisfying hunger.

We use the essential oil derived from distillation of the zest. It is antiseptic and softening. The water of the fruit is used for its toning and energising properties.
