A fruit tree measuring 7 m in height, grapefruit belongs to the Rutaceae family. Its fruit attains the size of a melon, with a smooth skin, and a yellowish-green colour, on maturity. Its peel or zest is very thick (2 cm or more), with a spongy, cottony consistency.
Traditions:In the 17th century it was a valuable resource for long sea voyages, quenching thirst and satisfying hunger.
Properties:We use the essential oil derived from distillation of the zest. It is antiseptic and softening. The water of the fruit is used for its toning and energising properties.
