Olive tree - Olea europae

Olea europae

A twisted tree of the Oleaceae family, the olive tree can reach a height of 20 m and live more than 2,000 years. The tree is clothed in silvery leaves. The olives are first green, then black when fully ripe in October-November.

An emblematic tree of the Mediterranean basin, the olive tree symbolises strength, peace, fertility and longevity. Its oil was long the beauty secret of the people of Provence, who used it to nourish and soften their skin. In Rome, women anointed their hair with it to keep it silky and supple.

The organic olive tree leaf extract is characterised by its sugar content, which provides the skin with optimal and long-lasting hydration. Olive water is very rich in polyphenols, which makes it a powerful anti-free radical agent.Cold-pressed olive oil, rich in Vitamin E, nourishes and softens the skin. Thanks to these three olive tree extracts the skin is protected, continually moisturised, and more radiant than ever.

L’Occitane is supplied with cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil by Château d’Estoublon. The olives are harvested by hand, in the Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée [term of controlled origin] (A.O.C.) area of Provence’s Vallée des Baux. The olives are pressed within 24 hours of being picked. The oil is then extracted, as is the water. The combination of water and oxygenated oil, a patented innovation, helps to stimulate the microcirculation, encourage the elimination of toxins and protect the skin from free radicals.
