Satsuma Mandarin tree - Citrus unshiu
Belonging to the Rutaceae family, the satsuma mandarin tree is a small evergreen tree of Japanese origin. Its flowers produce a pleasant fragrance and its fruits resemble the mandarin, but slightly larger. Even ripe, the skin of this fruit remains locally green.
Traditions:This mandarin tree is widely cultivated in Japan, where its seedless fruits are much appreciated. It is also planted in gardens since it forms very attractive, somewhat pendulous bushes.
Properties:Satsuma mandarin extract has properties which inhibit the synthesis of melanin, the black pigment responsible for marks on the skin. It therefore forms part of the composition of lightening products.
